Features of the product

A word from the product manager
We have improved the 2017-2018 model by making it more rigid, hence better suited to the 500 level, and by adding a heat moulding liner. It has retained all the features of the 2016-2017 model: - wider fit to ensure good support and comfort for all; - very lightweight, shock absorbent and insulating EVA sole (80% air) that protects from cold ground. - very powerful, dissociated tightening system: 2-zone Cable Lock.
Why the name
Mount Foraker is the 2nd highest mountain in Alaska. It rises to 5,304 m and is located in the Denali National Park. We have named our men's boots after it, indicating the different levels with the numbers 300, 500 and 700, corresponding to how well they support the foot. Indeed, the faster you go, the greater the pressure applied to the board through your boot: good foot retention keeps unwanted foot movements to a minimum.
2-zone Cable Lock tightening system
- Cable Lock: very powerful fastening knob with cable. - 2Z = 2 tightening areas. The power of the knob is focused on the instep for good support and the upper rip-tab prevents unwanted shin movements inside the snowboard boots. During the design phase, we conducted multiple tests with and without the rip-tab at the top of the boot. We decided to keep it owing to the support it provided.
Boot flex/stiffness
The Maoke 500 offers a medium flex. It is ideal for people who carve out turns at high speed (need for a stiff boot). It is also great for reacting quickly in tight turns and on unexpected bumps, thanks to the boot's relatively soft flex that allows you to quickly bend and extend the legs. The Bullwhip 500 really offers a mix of both. The flex and heel support has been enhanced, compared to the Maoke 300 boot.
Heel support: level 2 liner
Foot support is essential when snowboarding in order to correctly steer the board. The foot must be well supported in the liner, and the liner well supported in the boot. The level 2 liner uses the following 5 technologies: 1. liner can be heat moulded at home; 2. ergonomic Heel Pad ankle foam; 3. 3-point liner fastening system; 4. Hook & Loop Link Wide between the liner and boot; 5. Double foam: double layer of foam at the tongue on the instep, for support and comfort.
Home heat moulding liner
- Heat up your oven in convection mode to 80 °C - Remove the insoles from the liners and lay the liners on the tray of the oven lined with greaseproof paper - Leave for 15 minutes - Replace the sockliners, put on a pair of ski-snowboard socks, step into the liners and tighten them at your convenience. Then put on the snowboard boots and tighten them - Wait for 15 minutes, without moving, preferably while standing Repeat if necessary.
Ergonomic Heel Pad ankle foam
The ankle foam padding fills the space below and behind the ankle to secure the heel in place. The level 2 liner contains a foam made in an exclusive Wed'ze material and shape: - the shape was based on an average of 40 foot scans. It is ideal for securing the foot in place and can be adapted to everyone. - the material: an elastomer foam that is both soft and firm. As soon as you step into the boot, you can feel the support. And when you're riding, there are no hot points.
3-point liner fastening
A 3-point tightening system (instead of 4-point) offers the following 2 big advantages: - support: it blocks the heel very effectively because there is less friction with the laces and a maximum amount of energy is transferred to the 3rd and final tightening point, situated at the ankle, thereby providing optimum support. - warmth: given that there is no 4th tightening point at the instep, the blood flows more easily to the toes. This keeps your toes warm.".
Wide Hook & Loop Link between the liner and boot
We have added 2 rip-tabs between the liner and the boot, one each side of the liner. The retention surface between the liner and boot is 3 times bigger on the 500 models than on the 300 models. What for? To reduce any movement of the liner inside the boot, so it's easier to steer the board.
Double Foam
We have added a 2nd thickness of foam on the tongue, at the instep, for the following 2 reasons: - to secure the foot more firmly in place at the bottom of the liner - to enhance comfort by preventing the lace from cutting off the blood flow in this high-tension area.
Sole: grip, foothold, cushioning and thermal insulation
Our new Ultralight sole is 100% EVA. EVA is a very light material (80% air). This composition is designed to resist abrasion without compromising its cushioning properties. It has natural insulating properties and protects from the cold coming up from the ground. We have added big lugs for excellent grip. They are spaced quite far apart for easy removal of snow.
