Maxime Meunier. 1 passion. Freestyle.

Hello Maxime, how did you do last season?

Not too well. I hurt myself during the SFR Tour in Val Thorens and again in Vars. Classic skiing damage with a bashed knee and torn internal side ligament. So I only started skiing again at the end of last season after racing had stopped and I took the opportunity to make some skiing videos for Wed’ze.

How did you train this summer?

I trained all summer in Les 2 Alpes. Skiing every morning, body-building, hiking or trail biking in the afternoons. I was happy to see my knee was 100% better. I then did 2 weeks at Hintertux in the Austrian Tyrol, with the Comité du Dauphiné ski team.

And now we’re talking to you in Val Thorens

Yes, I’m here for 2 weeks. The Val Thorens Early Camp is a fabulous opportunity to train in ideal conditions. The snowpark is reserved for the pros and there are some great skiers! There are about forty of us in the very tough training sessions.
Perfect for starting the season flat out!

What are your objectives for this season?

I am basically focussed on racing. My objectives are to be in the Top 10 in the Coupe de France and on the SFR Tour. The first heat of the Coupe de France at La Clusaz will be a good warm-up and confidence-builder before the SFR Tour in Val Thorens. I will also ski in the European Cup heats in Switzerland. These are qualifiers for the World Cup if I max the points. This challenge is driving me hard at the moment!

And the videos?

I hope to do more. They really are an integral part of our sport. I go to the limits in them for Wed’ze. And we will do a maximum of photos and videos with the skis and garments in action.

How far are you going with Wed’ze?

I want to continue the super job we do together! The discussions are very meaningful and always lead to finite results. Some time ago, I worked for a week in the Décathlon store in Bouc-Bel-Air near Marseilles. It was very interesting to be with the floor people and in contact with their customers to talk about the passion we all share and bring them my experience as a pro rider.

And after that, you met up with them on the pistes!

Yes! At the end of October, we skied together at Les 2 Alpes for hands-on gear tests. We had great fun trying out everything and sharing our impressions and advice with all these floor sales people. I love working with Wed’ze and Décathlon – it’s a super team!

What can you tell us about your own gear?

This is my third season with Wed’ze. During the first season, I only wore their technical clothing. For the last 2 seasons, I have been 100% Wed’ze! Frankly the MaxStyle jacket with the EvoStyle loose pants are the ultimate and my pals are jealous! I also wear MidFeel and EvoFeel helmets, and the MaxBones goggles which are great! What I like in designing with Wed’ze is that they listen to our comments and recommendations and always react by making products which correspond exactly to our needs.

And your skis?

I couldn’t be happier. As the Wed’ze team always wants to go further, they are already thinking about what is going to come next. Next year, we’re bringing out a new freestyle ski which will change everything. Personally, I love helping with its development. I just finished testing the prototypes and they are very good indeed!

And how do you see the future?

I have two different diplomas. One in business and another as a trail-maker and first-aider. I think the second diploma will be the more useful as I want to continue my passion. My attitude to skiing puts safety first. An approach I would like to pass on later.

Thank you!
